Golf Course Communities

Overview

The Grand Strand area offers a wide variety of recreational activities for both residents and visitors. One of the most popular activities in the area is golf. Golf tourism has become so prevalent that Myrtle Beach is deemed “The Golf Capital of the World.” With over 80 courses from Little River to Pawleys Island, residents and tourists have seemingly endless options when it comes to scheduling tee times. A variety of options draws thousands of visitors to the area each year, and makes Myrtle Beach one of the largest golf tourism locations in the world. The golf courses are not only popular with tourists, but also with local residents. Many of the courses have developed into communities, where residents have the luxury of being only steps away from the greens and club house. The convenience of the close proximity to a course, along with other luxurious amenities offered by these communities, have made them some of the most desirable neighborhoods along the Grand Strand. Just to list a few, below are four golf course communities within the area.

Barefoot Landing

Golf in Myrtle Beach
The Barefoot Landing Resort in North Myrtle Beach, is a premier golf course located along the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. With four courses, a 40,000 square foot clubhouse, pool, and marina all sitting on 2,300 acres, Barefoot Landing Resort offers a vast array of amenities for residents. Professional golf legends such as Greg Norman, Pete Dye, Davis Love, and Tom Fazio designed these amazing golf experiences. In addition to the previously listed amenities, Barefoot Landing shopping, dining, and entertainment complex is located just off of Highway 17 in North Myrtle Beach. Barefoot Landing Resort has many different neighborhoods that range from condos to waterfront homes along the Intracoastal Waterway. The community has many condos that are utilized by owners and as a short-term rental property for golfers. In addition to condos, single family homes are also available within the community. Legends Resort has become a highly coveted community in Myrtle Beach. This is evident through a large increase in the average sales price in the past few years. On average, homes in the Legends Resort sold for $385,563 in September 2016 and have increased over $100,000 to $486,905 YTD as of September 2021. River Oaks Golf Club

River Oaks Golf Course
River Oaks Golf Club is centrally located to many different communities in Myrtle Beach. The club offers 27 holes divided up into 3 distinct nines. The 3 nines were each named after animals(fox, otter, and bear) that were natural to the land that the courses were developed on. Unlike other golf course communities in the Grand Strand, River Oaks strives to be a family-oriented facility. River Oaks is lovingly known by locals as the “fun” course and houses the Myrtle Beach Junior Golf Foundation. This golf club is able to draw both golf tourists and locals through its variety of nearby housing options. With multiple communities of both condos and single-family homes, there is an option for any situation. The majority of the properties feature views of either the golf course or of private woods. River Oaks Golf Club partners with multiple local golf course discount programs for local residents to buy into.

Wachesaw Plantation Club

Golf in Murrells Inlet
Wachesaw Plantation Club is a private, gated club located in Murrells Inlet. The land on which the club is located was originally two rice plantations in the 1700s. The club was founded in 1985 and offers its members some of the best facilities in all of the Grand Strand. The 18-hole course was designed by Tom Fazio to utilize the natural beauty of the Low Country. Unlike most other courses in the region, this course offers rolling fairways and changes in elevation. Members of the club not only gain access to the golf course, but also to golf practice facilities, tennis courts, a pool, and three restaurants. Many residents are drawn to the slower pace of Murrells Inlet and the luxurious amenities of the private club.
