December in Myrtle Beach: Must-See Holiday Events

It’s the most wonderful time of the year when Myrtle Beach begins holiday festivities. You won’t want to miss these family-friendly and fun-filled holiday events, from seeing thousands of twinkling lights, to buying handcrafted gifts. To ensure you get to experience all the fun, we have rounded up five of our favorite holiday events. Be sure to mark your calendars, because some of these festivities begin as early as December 1st!

Night of a Thousand Candles

This unique event is one of the most beloved holiday events in the Southeast, located in the stunning Brookgreen Gardens. Walk along paths to experience the soft glow of more than 2,700 hand-lit candles and millions of twinkling lights. Enjoy a warm cup of cider, holiday music, and a celebration of the holiday season with your loved ones. Night of a Thousand Candles takes place on select days between November 26th to January 1st. The gardens are open from 4-9 p.m. and tickets cost $35 for adults and $17 for children. Beverages and hors d’oeuvres are available for purchase. The Great Christmas Light Show

Experience the awe of over 2 million Christmas lights along a 2 mile drive throughout the North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex. The Great Christmas Light Show features over 500 custom light displays, where holiday scenes come to life. After visitors drive through the lights, they are then invited to visit Santa’s Village to enjoy hot chocolate, s’mores, a train ride, a petting zoo, and a chance to meet Santa himself. The drive through light show is open nightly from November 21st through December 30th (closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day). Santa’s Village is open on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday only from November 25th through December 11th (closed on Christmas Day). The Holiday Markets by Waccamaw Market Cooperative encourages gift-buyers to shop local this year with select farmers market locations and times in December. Goods may include fresh produce, baked goods, wood crafts, artisan soaps, gourmet popcorn, pottery, hand blown glass, handmade jewelry, and more. Visitors can visit Surfside Beach on Tuesdays, North Myrtle Beach on Fridays, and Valor Park on Saturdays to find handcrafted gifts for that special someone. Dates, times, and vendors vary on each location, so be sure to check the Waccamaw Market Cooperative website regularly for more information.

Winter Wonderland at the Beach

Get the best of both worlds by visiting downtown Myrtle Beach to walk through a Christmas light display along one mile of beach and boardwalk. In addition to seeing more than 100,000 lights, visitors can enjoy the brand-new Family Fun Zone near the SkyWheel that offers entertainment and activities for all ages. Have fun on the World’s Largest Bouncy Snowman, a s’mores making area, a Christmas tree, artisan booths, carolers and so much more! The Winter Wonderland is open from November 17th to December 23rd, 6-9pm. Admission for the lights display is free, and tickets to the Family Fun Zone are $1 each. Rivertown Christmas Celebration

Conway’s annual Rivertown Christmas Celebration will be sure to keep you and your family busy with holiday cheer! This event takes place every Thursday night, from December 1st to the 22nd. From 6-8 p.m., visitors to downtown Conway can experience tree lighting, candlelight shopping, gingerbread house displays, and visits with Santa. The schedule of events changes every Thursday, so plan to visit more than once! The celebration starts at 229 Main Street and has free admission to all events.
